Workshop "Active and passive methods of the brain mapping"

Event ended

We invite undergraduates, graduate students and young researchers in the intensive seminar, jointly developed by the HSE, MGPPU, Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University and Research Center "Kurchatov Institute". Key lectures and workshops will be held at HSE (Laboratory of transcranial magnetic stimulation) and MGPPU (MEG center). The seminar will be held entirely in English. Applications for the workshop should be submitted before October 1, 2014.

Workshop focuses on issues such as the how the human brain recognizes a specific environmental stimuli and how he reacts to them, what areas of the brain involved in the solution of this problem.

Modern technologies allow to significantly expand our understanding of how the brain works. Many important discoveries have been made in the field of functional and morpho-physiological brain mapping. Technologies such as TMS, MEG, fMRI can effectively evaluate the role of the various structures of the brain in specific problems, as well as gain an understanding of the complex work of the whole brain. The workshop participants have a unique opportunity to get the experience with these techniques, learn about their capabilities and shortcomings, and discuss them. The main attention is paid to the seminar discussion on how to properly analyze the data obtained with these techniques, how to evaluate and interpret it. The seminar involved teachers and instructors from Russia, the United States and Europe.

The seminar will be held entirely in English.

The program includes the following topics:

Day 1: «Brain Mapping by MRI»

Day 2: «TMS and TDCS tools of active decoding of the human brain activity»

Day 3: «MEG and fMRI tool for passive decoding»

Day 4: «Neural interfaces»

Format: The workshop involves a 4-day 6-hour format. In addition to lectures on each topic offers workshops and roundtables. The next technologies will be demonstrated for participants: TMS, MEG, EEG, fMRI, eye tracking.

Attendees of the seminar will be selected on a competitive basis.

Candidates should have a basic knowledge of neuroscience. The application for participation in the workshop must attach own CV.

Applications for the workshop should be submitted at the website page before October 1, 2014.

For all questions relating to the work of the school should be made to the Evgeny Blagoveschensky
