Brazil is Coming Closer
On January 17, 2014, Elena Vasina, Director of the Translation Centre at the University of Sao Paulo will read a lecture on ‘Brazil: Politics, Culture, Language’ at the HSE in Nizhny Novgorod. The lecture is happening as part of the cooperation agreement between the two universities, signed in October 2013.
Elena Vasina is Professor at the Department of Russian Studies (and Director of the Translation Centre) at the University of Sao Paulo. She has published more than 100 papers and is Executive Secretary of the Ibero-American Association of Slavic Studies.
Elena Vasina will speak on ‘Brazil: Politics, Culture, Language’ and then meet Russian language and literature teachers from Nizhny Novgorod. In the evening she will read a lecture for students taking the Political Linguistics Master’s.
Professor Elena Vasina assures us that, ‘A real ‘Russian cultural boom’ is taking place today in Brazil: more and more Russian classics are being translated into Portuguese, there’s a growing number of art exhibitions, and Brazilians are starting to learn Russian and read Russian literature.’
The University of Sao Paulo provides scholarships for students who dream of studying abroad and particularly in Russia.
The cooperation began at the University of Sao Paolo, with lectures by Marina Tsvetkova, Professor of the HSE Department of Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Communication.See also:

In the framework of the academic mission to Latin America, HSE University-St Petersburg has negotiated to launch joint projects with leading Brazilian universities. Thus, with the University of São Paulo, the first in the QS ranking among Brazilian universities, HSE plans to carry out joint research aimed at supporting biodiversity, developing biotechnologies and solving ecological and social issues.
HSE University to Expand Cooperation with Brazilian Universities
On October 14, 2024, International Partnership Day Russia–Brazil took place at HSE University.
