Developing a World Сlass Business School Is a Top Priority for HSE
Valery Katkalo, former Dean of Sberbank Corporate University, will be taking on the role of HSE Vice Rector for Continuing Education. HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov announced the appointment at the Staff and Student Conference, which was held in Moscow.
Professor Valery Katkalo holds a Doctor of Economic Sciences degree. He graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Economics at Leningrad State University (1986), before pursuing a doctoral degree and interning at the Haas School of Business (University of California). He has lectured at leading business schools in Europe and authored more than 100 publications, including 8 books and articles in leading international and Russian academic journals.
From 1997-2012, he supervised (as Dean and then Vice Rector of St. Petersburg State University) the establishment and development of the Graduate School of Management, the first and only Russian business school admitted to the global Alliance CEMS, accredited by EQUIS and included in the Financial Times global ranking.
From December 2012 to December 2018 he worked as Dean of Sberbank Corporate University. In 2016, the university was the first Russian business institution to receive CLIP accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) as well as EOCCS certification for three online programmes.
Valery Katkalo is Vice President of EFMD, a member of EFMD Board, a member the Board of Trustees of SKOLKOVO Institute of Science and Technology, and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Far Eastern Federal University. From 2008-2013 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of a number of world leading business schools (HEC-Paris, Fuqua School at Duke University, and WU-Vienna); from 2010-2018 he served as Chairman of the EPAS/EFMD Accreditation Board; and from 2013-2017 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Transneft.
He received a Letter of Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation, three state awards (including the Order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland’ [II Class] and the title ‘Honored Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation’).

Two HSE University Researchers Among Winners of Research Excellence Award Russia 2021
Elsevier (operated by Scopus) has awarded its prestigious Research Excellence Award since 2005. This year, it celebrates the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. On March 30, Elsevier awarded the winning scholars, which included Maxim Kotsemir, Research Fellow at the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, and Dmitry Vetrov, Professor at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science.
