A competition of research centres looking to receive grants through the Artificial Intelligence federal project has concluded, and HSE University is among the winners. Winning centres will focus on developing new AI technologies that expand its application, overcoming existing limitations for solving applied problems and optimizing AI models.

The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters held a ceremonial meeting on September 13 at which it named HSE professor Fuad Aleskerov a foreign member. Aleskerov is a professor of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, head of the Department of Mathematics and director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis. The list of the Academy’s foreign members began with mathematician Mstislav Keldysh, and in the 20 years since, only two more scientists have joined those ranks. An animated video for the song ‘Time for Resentment’ by Mumiy Troll has been posted on the band’s official website. Athena Zhurba, 3rd-year Animation and Illustration student and author of the concept, directed this video.
HSE Supercomputer Doubles Its Performance
The peak performance of the HSE cHARISMa supercomputer has doubled, reaching 2 petaflops (2 quadrillion floating-point operations per second). HSE University now outperforms the Kurchatov Institute in terms of computing power. The only more powerful university computers are MSU’s Lomonosov-2 and SPbPU’s Polytechnic. Thanks to the timely upgrade, cHARISMa has retained its respectable 6th position among the Top 50 most powerful computer systems in the CIS for three years.

The Cosmoscow International Contemporary Art Fair was held in September in the Central Manege. Six graduates and a student of the HSE Art and Design School presented their works at the event. Yulia Yusma, Director of HSE ART GALLERY supervised the projects.
QS Rankings: HSE University Graduates in High Demand Worldwide
HSE University has placed in the top 250 universities worldwide in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings despite increased competition. A total of 786 universities were assessed for this year’s rankings—an increase over last year. The published list of 550 universities is also 10% larger than last year’s.

HSE University has once again improved its position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject in Psychology, entering the 101–125 cohort of the world’s best universities in the field.
