HSE University’s Master’s Programme in Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia prepares students for careers in academia, diplomacy, government, or NGOs. Ekaterina Melianova and Artem Volgin, both graduates of the Master’s Programme Applied Statistics with Network Analysis, took second place in two CDP competitions: the Unlocking Climate Solutions Kaggle Competition and the COVID-19 Symptom Data Challenge. In the coronavirus-related data competition, the HSE graduates outperformed professors and PhD students of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Washington, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and other foreign universities.

The International Study Tour experience is currently accepting applications for February 2021. The programme is organized by the International Admissions team with the aim of giving international students an opportunity to get a glimpse of what studying at HSE University is like. Participants attend various classes in different fields of study. Last November, the programme was held online for the first time. The February round will also be held fully online, so students from all over the world can take part. Application deadline is February 8.

The COVID-19 epidemic has clearly shown how important digital competencies are for students — both in their studies and in everyday life. Master’s degree students, many of whom combine work with study, can give a detailed account of which IT skills employers expect. In November, the International Admissions team organized the first online Study Tour experience for prospective Master’s students. International students were able to attend online classes offered by different Master’s programmes and see first-hand what studying at HSE University is like.
