BRICS Countries Look for Their Place in Biotechnology Market

Over the past 20 years, the BRICS countries' contribution to biotechnology development has increased manyfold, but it may be too early to predict a change of global leaders in this field, according to HSE ISSEK researchers who examined biotechnology patenting in the BRICS countries and published their findings in Trends in Biotechnology.

Analysing BRICS Media and Creative Industries

On April 11, Dr Daya Thussu, Professor of International Communication and Co-Director of India Media Centre at the Communication and Media Research Institute (University of Westminster) will speak at the XVIII April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. His presentation, entitled ‘Creative industries in BRICS nations and glocalization of content’, is part of a panel session on Global corporations and local media content producers on newly emerging markets: technological and creative aspects. In addition to his academic role at the University of Westminster, he serves as the Managing Editor of the journal ‘Global Media and Communication’.

BRICS: Prospects and Opportunities

How can cooperation among BRICS countries be built in the modern era? What can contribute to the economic growth of China and Russia? These are the key issues of the Summer School on ‘Economics and Business in BRICS: Perspectives for Russia and China’ that took place in Saint Petersburg in August 2016.

Russia — Brazil Summer School on Foresight & STI Policy

From June 15 to 19, 2015, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) held a joint summer school with Brazil’s Center for Strategic Studies and Management in Science, Technology and Innovation (CGEE). The aim of the summer school was to explore areas for collaboration  for both countries and institutions in the field of Foresight and STI policy following an earlier memorandum of understanding signed between CGEE and HSE.

International Antitrust Discussion Platform to be based at HSE

On the 22-23rd June the BRICS Competition Law and Policy Forum took place at HSE St Petersburg. The international conference was organised jointly by the HSE-Skolkovo Institute for Law and Development, the Centre for Law, Economics and Society at UCL and the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). Heads of antitrust departments and experts from the BRICS and the EEC were joined by leading academics and experts on competition law from Europe and the US.

The Time of ‘Loner Universities’ Has Passed

Today St Petersburg saw the launch of the international conference Education and Global Cities: BRICS perspectives. About 400 representatives of higher education and high-schools, authorities, and businesses from across the world discuss the latest trends in education development, the current role of universities in cities and new paths to resolving current problems in education.

HSE to Provide Platform for Discussion of Civil Society Influence Strategies in BRICS Countries

Which methods and practices do civil activists use in BRICS countries? Why and under what conditions can they be effective? What can Russian civil society learn from civil society in India or Brazil, and vice versa? These issues will be discussed at a conference to be held on May 19 jointly by the HSE Department of Public Policy and Oxfam, an international non-governmental organization. Registration for the seminar is open to Russian and foreign experts, researchers, students and representatives of NGOs.
